Question: Are there any new treatments for chronic pouchitis?

I've been on and off Cipro for years, and am suffering from chronic pouchitis. I'd love to get off this medication but when I do, for any length of time, I relapse.

Answer

Some patients are dependent on taking antibiotics to treat chronic pouchitis. Though this maybe the most appropriate approach there are multiple clinical trials ongoing or being planned within the year to study new treatments for pouchitis. Would suggest touching base with your physician to see what opportunities exist.
